Sebastian Enriques

Sebastian Enriques °1997 was born in Antwerp to a musical family. His mother is a Flemish educated violinist and his father is a Peruvian traditional musician. At the age of five he received his first private piano lessons and at the age of 8 he learned to play the violin at the music school of Wijnegem. When he first came into contact with an accordion in November 2008, he was immediately captivated and felt an instant connection to the instrument. Barely one year later, Sebastian was on stage for the first time with a full-length concert as the accordionist of the duo Muzant. Together with his mother violinist, they have been playing all over Flanders and recorded their first CD 'Altijd Onderweg' ('Always on the go') in 2016.

After his studies at the!Kunsthumaniora Antwerp, he was accepted at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in 2016 with great distinction in the class of Ludo Mariën. Over the next few years, he participated in international competitions in Bratislava and Prague with Mol's accordion class. With Sebastian as soloist, they were awarded 'Grand Prix Bratislava' in 2017 and 'Festival Laureate' in 2018 with the highest score possible. During this period. he was also part of various projects such as: 'A Night of Tangos' in 2018 led by Anouk Lapaire & Laia Ruiz, 'Tango Sextet' in 2019 led by Sebastian Enriques, 'Bram Rooses Ensemble XXI' in 2020 led by Bram Rooses, 'Witte Vlinders' in 2021 directed by Emma Wills and 'En Ik Dan?' directed by An-Sofie Moons & Yune Paepe in 2022.

With up-and-coming guitarist Emma Wills, he formed Duo Como in 2018. The passion and technical agility in their playing, which is performed with great enjoyment, is evident in their varied and summery program under the name 'Douce Joie'. In 2021 Sebastian played his master's concert in which he graduated with highest distinction. He then won first prize in the Trophée Mondial Richard Galliano in the senior solo category for his interpretation and arrangement of 'Des Voiliers' by Richard Galliano and 'De Maan is Verhuisd' by Gwen Cresens. Currently Sebastian is working on his own project 'De Sneeuwmakers' together with poet Peter Holvoet-Hanssen. In addition, since 2018 he has been passing on his passion to his students in Muzarto, The Academy for Music, Word and Dance Essen - Kalmthout, Music School Mimuze in Kalmthout and Municipal Academy for Music and Word Deurne.

Thanks to these experiences and broad musical education under the guidance of Ludo Mariën, Sebastian developed into an accordionist who is experienced in all styles. This versatility manifests itself in his exploration of the entire musical repertoire - from baroque to jazz and from Argentine tango to French musette - where he transcends these genres with great virtuosity and craftsmanship. In doing so, he does not want to leave the audience untouched. He therefore strives for a greater appreciation of his instrument and above all, hopes to achieve this with you.
